Uncontrollably Fond - Episode 14 Summary

Episode 14 is so much a torture emotionally. With every chance given to Lee Kyung Hee writer-nim, she made us to feel heavy emotionally, specially when we all know Shin Joon Young is dying soon enough, at least we only have 6 episode left which means things are going to be harder for him to even move. Damn it.

The opening scene of episode 14 feels hot actually for me, I wish they had a kiss scene, yet nothing. Noh Eul says that she will not budge from his side.

JY who says he wants to sleep suddenly pulls Eul closer towards the bed and asks her, "Do you want to sleep with me? If that's not what you want, you can tell me now and I'll be very glad to open the door for you." With her teary eyes, Eul doesn't even budge. She instead says, "I won't leave. Whatever you do, I will stick by your side." (YEAY! That's it Eul. You rocks, you pretend to be sick on the last episode, asks to see him today, tomorrow and from now on like the way JY has tried to you. Ohmy, you guys rock it!)

Eul is ready to take whatever gonna happen to her, but instead with his "missing her" eyes, JY leaves the room and calls him Mom.

He asks his Mom, "Tell me again the reasons why I should not be with Eul. It's because I can't remember those." Unfortunately, Young Ok is kinda busy with the customers to answer his nonsense talk. Thus, she hangs up the call saying she will talk to him later. But on the other side, JY keeps talking on the phone, "Then, I'm going to Eul. Mom, if you forgot about those and can't remember them any longer, then let's say those thing have never existed so I am going to Eul."He finally revealed his ardent heart towards Eul as he sees her outside, leaving the hotel room and his hand crumbles again, making his phone fall from his hand (his disease is getting worse).

The next day, JY picks his best suit dress and now he's gonna record something. I guess it's something he will leave after he's gone later on. He goes on as he says, "This is Shin Joon Young. Three months ago, I learnt from my doctor that I suffer an illnes...It's very surprising yeah, even for me..." and it stops. (Maybe they will show us later on the full version, but not at this time although I almost cried when he chose the best dress, smiled on the camera, stating he is sick and gonna die soon. This reminds me of Silence staring Vic Zhou)

On JY's Mom restaurant, Yukgaejang, JY's Mom changes the sign, that now JY's fans are welcomed there. It seems like now Mom approves JY as an actor/singer and tries to be more open towards him. (Congrats to JY that you finally won't be that lonely in your limited time). Young Ok finds GY is there, washing the dishes, telling that he quits being JY's manager because he can't stand working for someone who is not even bother when Eul is being treated poorly.

Meanwhile, Eul is meeting Jik's teacher, to inform her that Jik has decided not going to college. Jik bursts in to the room, yelling to his teacher that she should keep it as a secret instead of telling his sister. The teacher says that Jik is smart and with his grades, he could even go to any college. Eul yanks him outside by the ear, and yells at him for daring to not go to college after she’d worked so hard to support him. Jik argues that she couldn’t afford the tuition anyway, and when Eul says that they have money, he tells her to stop freeloading off friends, to find a place for her and Jik to live, and to pay off the loan sharks. If she does all that, Jik promises to go to college—and only then. Jik heads back to class, and Eul gets a phone call from Assemblyman Choi’s wife asking to meet with her. (Poor Eul, what Jik said is true but you now put your sister on another danger again, a danger where life seems to be joking again towards her. No matter how hard she is fighting, things don't go on her expected way. But yeah, Eul, I am so proud of you for being strong and stand still in whatever situation you are in.)

Pororo is back to JY's house. JY says that Pororo can stay in the house again because Eul will never come again to his house. JY then notices a red thread in the dog's fur and he reaches to pluck it but his vission gets blurred and cannot a grib on it. He then receives a call from his doctor, asking how he's been doing and whether he reconsider about getting treatment and being admitted to the hospital. JY then says he won't go to the hospital because even if he went, he would also end up dying. But Doctor Kang can't just sit back when his patient is doing nothing. He gently then threatens JY that he is going to tell his family, then JY smiles and says he'll just take him to the court.

Jung Eun comes to JY's house. She seems to be angry because he sent her a silver necklace shaped like a key. She firmly informs him that she’s engaged, and he just barely manages not to roll his eyes. He clarifies that he got everyone on his staff a similar necklace as an apology for the ruckus yesterday, but says she can return it to him if she wants.

Jung Eun then calms and thanks him for apologizing to Yoon Hoo though she’s sorry it was necessary to do it on his knees. He says that he had to do it so that she wouldn’t, and gives her a long, searching stare. Uncomfortable, Jung Eun quickly stands to leave, but she turns back and asks what JY said when he pulled her from the pool. JY grins and says that it's a secret, but Jung Eun insists. He gets up to stand very close to her, and says that she’s engaged, and he said that before he knew who she was. She still wants to know, but JY just politely wishes her a lovely day.

The news of Eun Soo (Ji Tae's Mom) inviting Eul to come to KJ Group headoffice reaches Ji Tae. Eun Soo says it's so nice to meet with Eul that she seems to be alright. She then says nicely that Eul has a loyal supporter who even threatens her if she hurt Eul. Eul only responds that she won't leave Korea and Eun Soo says that she didn't ask her to leave Korea because Korean people should just stay in Korea. After that she presents Eul with an envelope of money with amount nearly a million dollar, with the condition that Eul should give Ji Tae back to his fiance. She explains that his fiance likes him for almost 20 years and it's such a mean thing for Eul to take Ji Tae and hurt someone who has nothing to do with her.

Ji Tae rushes into the office and finds Eul with his Mom. He angrily warns his mother that she should leave Eul alone because his threats is real. Eun Soo defends herself, stating she is doing something good to Eul, for giving her money to the poor. Ji Tae then prepares to rip it but Eul prevents him in doing so. She then says that is the cheque is real because she is going to accept and use it. She promised that she will not ever meet Ji Tae again.

Ji Tae follows her out and says that she should have held out for an apology, not money. But Eul knows that his family will never apologize — no matter how long she fights, they won’t say they’re sorry. Eul knows that even if Ji Tae stands up to protect her, they will still crush her like the last time. She admits that she sold Ji Tae for a billion won and considers herself to be lucky to know him.

Jung Eun doesn't leave JY's home, instead she stays near the river until JY comes out and asks her whether the wind is cold on her. Jung Eun asks him on what reasons he builds a house near a beautiful river. She then asks him what his relationship with Eul since it's obvious that Eul likes JY very much. JY then admits that he likes Eul very very much, which is why he beats Yoon Hoo, because what Yoon Hoo has done to Eul.

Being confused, Jung Eun then asks JY why he is cold towards Eul then. JY replies, "Because she is too pretty for me to have and that upsets me."

His answer makes Jung Eun to be angry and calls both JY and Ji Tae an idiot who falls for someone like Eul. Jung Eul nearly insults Eul, but JY stops her, stating the fact that Eul is someone he likes very much.

Frustrated, Jung Eun tries to flounce off, but ends up with her heel stuck in a grate. Her shoe breaks and she falls, and JY rushes to her side. When he sees her self-consciously tugging at her short hem, he shrugs off his coat and covers her legs, then carries her inside after assuring her that he’s only trying to help.

Eul is thrilled to report to Na Ri that she’s just won the lottery, and cheerfully offers to buy her friend anything she wants as thanks for all her help. Na Ri is alarmed at the cost of everything Eul wants to buy, but Eul keeps insisting that she’s loaded now. Na Ri nearly swallows her tongue when she gets a load of that check, but the shop girl refuses to take it as payment.

A hand snatches the check — it’s Ji Tae, and he offers to pay for everything himself, shocking Na Ri even further.

Eul tells her friend who Ji Tae really is, and whose son he is: “He lied to us.” She refuses to let him pay and tells him to go back to his fiancee. Instead Ji Tae tells her to take that check back to his mother, claiming to be offended that she sold him out for “only” a billion won.

Ji Tae adds that he’s not the only one she sold out — what about her father? He spits that if she wants to do this, she’d better do it right and take everything his parents have. Only then will she truly be even.

JY gently ices Jung Eun’s ankle, smiling as he says that he’s got experience since Eul trips a lot. Isn’t that the truth. Jung Eun seems affected by his care, and she says she’s better and readies to go. But when she gets in her, car she finds that driving hurts her ankle, and asks JY to drive her home.

On the drive, Jung Eun gives JY a calculating look, and asks what he thinks of her. Is she as charming as Eul? JY gives her a big old side-eye and says that they have completely different charms. Jung Eun then asks if he would consider seducing her, but JY reminds her that she’s engaged.

Jung Eun admits that her fiance only has eyes for Eul, and that he even broke off their engagement — and while it’s obvious that Eul likes JY, Ji Tae still has feelings for her. Jung Eun boldly says that she plans to steal JY from Eul, to hurt her the way Eul hurt Jung Eun, and so that Ji Tae will realize what he lost. JY doesn’t answer, but he helps her out of the car at her building and jokes that he can’t be seen carrying her in. Jung Eun asks for an answer to her question: Can she steal him from Eul? JY says that no, she can’t.

As his taxi pulls away leaving Jung Eun stunned, the corner of JY’s mouth betrays a tiny smile. Halfway home, he asks the taxi driver to turn around, and ends up at Na Ri’s place instead.

JY hides when Na Ri exits her front door, and another taxi pulls up to let out Eul and what looks like a mountain of shopping bags. Eul is thrilled to have bought so many gifts for Na Ri and Jik, but Na Ri accuses her of not even being human — she sold out her father for that money.

Eul barks that refusing the money won’t bring her father back, or find his killer. Nobody is helping her, so what’s so bad about taking the money? Her father always said she couldn’t survive on her own, so now he can rest in peace. Jik can even go to college and live a normal life. Eul accuses Na Ri of being jealous, but Na Ri says that that’s not it — Eul has changed. If she’s so determined to do this, she can take her money and get out of Na Ri’s home.

Ji Tae arrives home and overhears his mother discussing Jung Eun’s virtues at the dinner table, and how everyone at the company is impressed by her. Ji Tae sits down and tells the truth of what people are saying — that Jung Eun was given a job title she didn’t earn. Assemblyman Choi pleasantly points out that they said the same about Ji Tae at first, that he got his job just because he was the boss’s son. But then he proved himself and the gossip stopped. Ji Tae tells his mother to cut Jung Eun loose, since he’ll never marry her.

Later Ji Tae’s father comes to his room, and helps him put a medicated patch on his sore neck. Ji Tae tells him about the money his mother gave to Eul, but he has to admit that Eul didn’t turn it down. Assemblyman Choi tells him to stop protecting her when she’s made her choice.

Na Ri calls Ji Tae crying, stumbling over his real name, and proceeds to light him up. She yells that being rich doesn’t give him the right to belittle people, and tells him that this money has already changed Eul. She demands that he bring her old friend back, and Ji Tae’s hands shake as he struggles against angry tears. Ji Tae collects himself and makes another call, and tells the person on the line, “I’m going to take everything my parents have.”

Ajusshi finds JY’s mom sitting in her dark restaurant well after closing, and she asks him what would have happened if she’d stayed with Assemblyman Choi and not run away. Ajusshi says in his simple way that they’d have probably had more kids and lived happily ever after, but she wants to know what kind of person Choi would have become. Would he not have turned into a horrible person, as JY said Ajusshi sighs, and says that if she misses him, she should steal him back. It was clear to him from Assemblyman Choi’s expression that he’d leave it all if she asked. She sniffs that she feels bad for JY. Because of what his father did, JY can’t be with the girl he loves.

JY follows Eul from a distance, but she doesn’t check into a fancy hotel like she screamed to Na Ri she’d do. She sits on some stairs with her shopping bags, drinking soju from boxes and talking to a pair of shoes she bought for Jik. She asks the shopping bags what she did that was so wrong, then yells at the shoes to stop lecturing her on ethics. She also grumbles about Na Ri, who would throw away a ten-year friendship so easily.

Then Eul lies back on the stairs and stares up at the night sky. She calls up to her father, and JY looks like his heart is breaking for her.

JY finally approaches once she passes out, and piggybacks her back to Na Ri’s place. He carefully sets her down in front of the door and tells her softly that she did nothing wrong. Then he leans in as if to kiss her, but stops himself and pulls back.

Instead, he rings the doorbell and leaves. As he walks away, JY thinks to himself, ”Mom, should I give up everything else and just do what I want before I die? I’ll hold Eul’s hand, and kiss her, and hug her tiny shoulders warmly. We’ll watch movies and travel, and laugh, and be happy. Should I do that? It’s not like I need permission.”

Jik studies to take the civil service exam, while Haru beams at him and bats her eyelashes. Jik teases her for being bad at studying, grinning when she harrumphs at him, then he notices the Shin Joon-young fan club blanket she’s thrown over her shoulders. He asks if she’s still in the club, and she admits that she quit. She figures out that Jik must be jealous, and Jik does a terrible job denying it. Haru promises to study hard and get into college, and Jik scoots over close to help her with a math problem. He’s so close and so pretty that Haru goes a little googly-eyed, and she impulsively plants a kiss on his cheek. He jumps and calls her a pervert.

Eul looks like nine miles of bad road in the morning, and she finds a grumpy note from Na-ri, who made her some hangover soup. A visitor at the door proves to be Ji Tae’s former assistant, who must be Jung Eun’s current assistant, as he summons Eul to meet with Jung Eun. It just so happens to be Jung Eun’s birthday, and JY buys her a nice pair of shoes to replace the ones she ruined at his home. He calls her office and requests a meeting.

Eul is led into an opulent, empty restaurant, where Jung Eun asks her to eat together for her birthday. She explains that this is the restaurant she manages, and she ordered it closed so they could speak privately. She asks if Eul knows who she is beyond the director of the movie project, and impatiently snaps that she’s Ji-tae’s fiancee — although, because of Eul, there was no engagement.

Jung Eun asks imperiously if Eul has anything to say to her besides just a simple “I’m sorry,” and Eul explains that she’s not going to see Ji Tae again. Jung Eun spits that she’s better not, especially after taking a billion won as a promise. Eul’s phone buzzes with a call from Ji Tae, but Jung Eun snatches the phone away and answers it herself. Ji Tae, thinking he’s talking to Eul, asks if she’s with Jung Eun, and Jung Eun answers that she is.

Jung Eun says to Ji Tae that Eul needs to be taught a lesson, for taking so much money and not keeping her promise not to see him. Should she tell his mother? Ji Tae frantically tells Jung Eun to send Eul away and that he’ll be there soon, but Jung Eun just hangs up on him.

Eul says she’s sorry again, and Jung Eun loses her temper, screaming, “How sorry are you?!” She stands and lifts the tablecloth, dumping their entire meal in Eul’s lap. “How dare you? You don’t even deserve my jealousy!”

Again Eul apologizes and tries to explain, but Jung Eun can’t be calmed, and she yanks Eul up by the collar. She says that if Eul is so sorry, then she can die. She can go kill herself if she feels that bad, so that Ji Tae can never go back to her.

Ji Tae arrives and pushes Jung Eun off of Eul, and tells Eul to wait outside. Eul apologizes one last time, promising Jung Eun that she really won’t see Ji Tae again, and she leaves on shaking legs.

Ji-tae turns his anger on Jung Eun, who frankly looks like her mind is about to snap. He asks how cruel he needs to be before she gives up, his voice rising to a scream.

Eul waits for the elevator, and when the door opens, there stands JY, holding flowers and a gift.

He’s obviously here to see Jung Eun, and Eul just stares at him, his betrayal shining in her eyes.

Personal Thoughts:

So, firstly, I would like to congrats Kim Woo Bin for his portrayal as Shin Joon Young who grabs my utmost respect and appreciation. He deserves to get higher rating, even though he's been doing good all this time. Kim Woo Bin has a bad boy image who is hard to control and has an arrogant look. But somehow, he manages to improve and prove himself that he is truly an actor because he can portray various emotions, specially the mellow one as Shin Joon Young and because of that, his arrogant and bad boy image vanished in my eyes. He is like a normal ordinary human being, can laugh and also can cry. It's just that he is a cool charismatic guy and I cannot imagine anyone else becoming Shin Joon Young other than Kim Woo Bin. Because of his image, the character of Shin Joon Young really becomes real in my eyes.

Secondly, this episode makes my heart sinks everything Shin Joon Young is gonna die soon. Why our Lee Kyung Hee writer-nim is so mean to us? She is making our heart feels heavy and burdensome to know JY's secret and there is no one in his world who happens to care for what he's going through. I nearly in tears when JY calls his Mom, telling her that he is going to date Eul and pretends that nothing has existed. Second one, I cried when JY records his last will. Again, I almost went insane when JY walks off from Eul's home, stating whether he should give up and pursue his happiness with Eul in his remaining days. I really really want his Mom to tell him he should just live his life whatever he wants and pursue his happiness instead. I know that's going to happen soon enough, but Mom, do you know that your son is dying yet he still chooses a harsh path? This episode really torture me emotionally because JY. I really hope he stays alive.

Thirdly, I do wonder what it is going to happen to Ji Tae's parents when all of what they have are broken apart. Eun Soo is terrible, she is very political minded with her bad way of clearing things and I really don't like her two face. She seems kind but actually a very disgusting woman. Eul is true that she is never going to win with the fighting because for whatever reasons it is, they are not going to say sorry nor apologize to her. Even Hyun Joon also states that Eul is someone who accepts her fate. He doesn't even consider feeling guilty nor regret towards her. What a coward and bastard. These bunch of people deserves something even worse than just revenge by law. I want them to feel the pain and desperation that Eul has been gone through for the past years.

Fourth, I don't want to imagine what things gonna happen between JY and Jung Eun, but I do admit that Jung Eun really doesn't have much screen time, so maybe this is the time where she can be utilised at maximum, meanwhile Eul is going to just relax a bit. Although I know the reasons JY is going towards Jung Eun is for revenge and unveil the truth, somehow deep inside me hope they have less screen time because we all need happiness scene between Eul and JY more than with Jung Eun! Anyway, I really wonder what will happen to Jung Eun once she knows that she is the one who kills Eul's Dad and she is the one who should feel sorry towards Eul other than Eul feeling sorry for taking Ji Tae because she doesn't bring him anywhere. It's Ji Tae who chooses Eul over Jung Eun. I also wonder what Ha Ru's parent will respond when they know the one that their children love come from the same family, in which they play a part in covering the death. That must be epic.

In whatever case, episode 15 preview seems like a big improvement because Eul is soon enough going to know JY's secret. She askeed someone where JY is sick and how sick he is. This is gonna be a heartbreaking episode yet I still can't wait. Best drama of the year <3 with DoTS too ^.^

Cheers ~
