Descendant of the Sun - Recap Ep 7 & 8

There is no such thing as I missed this drama. But I will be apologizing for making a very late recap for episode 7 onward since I have been so busy last weekend and end up falling sick yesterday. I might have to say that I am not going to give a full recap since it's going to be much work from now on. However, I am going to bring my recap to the next level of summarizing the episode which will also include my personal thought and feeling as an encouraging viewers.

Episode 7 and 8 makes me cry in each episodes. It's so touching yet I feel Mo Yeon's character more than last episode. I know some of you might say she is inconsistent, but that's how girls are seriously. Mo Yeon's flow of thinking and her feeling are potrayed really well during these episodes, although I was tempted to shout to her to be honest about her feeling more. 

With the disaster strikes on Urk, all of the soldiers and medical team are still in search of survivors who are stucked in the power plant area. Daniel helps on operating the disaster patient while he asked Ye Hwa to lend her hand on the operational evacuations. Myung Joo is treating a survivor who goes into shock and Mo Yeon walks up to do chest compressions which brings back his pulse. She believes the patient has abdominal bleeding and the surgery center is full and it’s a 30 minute ride back to the main army base and the patient won’t make it. Mo Yeon declares that the surgery will have to be done there instead. Myeong Ju calls her crazy but she is forced to do that with the help of blood transfusion from Ki Bum.

Meanwhile, Shi Jin and team Alpha finally find Team Lead Ko and another power plant staff who was stabbed by the beam. Mo Yeon was asked to come and see the situation first. Shi Jin pulls Mo Yeon aside to explain that the two areas are connected – if the concrete is lifted off Team Leader Go, it will pull the beam impaling the other worker up and slice him through. If they cut off the beam first then the rest of the concrete will fall completely on the Team Leader. Mo Yeon feels the pain because she actually has no right to choose whoever needs to be alive. But Shi Jin tolds her to choose based on her rational judgement as a doctor instead. Although this might be what usually happens to Shi Jin, but this is the first time for Mo Yeon to experience this. 

As Seo Dae Yong in the mission of evacuate the survivors, he falls down and the Ki Bum who is in the middle of blood transfussion is panicked which makes Myeong Ju lose her concentration. She looks worried too but hold up to save her patient and in doing so, she tells Ki Bum to stay still rather than making her nervous. She also told Ki Bum to hold back meeting Dae Yong because she will be the first one. This scene makes her looks cooler than ever! She is indeed in love with Dae Yong but she still doesn't forget her duty call and he status as army surgeon. Kim Ji Won really plays her character really well. 

Mo Yeon finally decides to choose the other staff instead of Team Leader Go because by the time she saves him, the chance for him to recover is much smaller since his feet has already feel numb. The Manager goes to harangue Shi Jin about the importance of the documents in the office having to do with the political future of Urk and South Korea, claiming it’s cross borders contracts of upmost diplomatic necessity. He tells Shi Jin to quickly save the person here who best can survive and then move on to clearing the office. He tells Shi Jin to do his job as a soldier and put the country’s interests first, and at a time like this it doesn’t matter if one or two people die. 

Shi Jin growls at him to shut him, saying that the role of a soldier is to protect the people and that is the utmost importance. Even if a bastard like the Manager is in need Shi Jin will save him. The Manager warns Shi Jin that he is making a big mistake and Shi Jin tells him to scram. A beam falls on top of them and Shi Jin protects the Manager and takes the brunt of the beam. Shi Jin makes sure the Manager is fine before walking away but the Manager sees drops of blood on his hand from the bloody wound on Shi Jin’s shoulder without him realizing it. 

After everyone is saved, the back up has arrived and thus they are free to take rest. Dae Young is washing up outside when Myung Joo takes his towel to dry his face. She wants to know if Dae Young came or her father sent him. Dae Young came because the most dangerous zone needs the best soldiers and Myung Joo doesn’t like that answer.

Dae Young reminds her that her father is very worried about her. Myeong Ju asked him again what is he going to do if she is not fine? Dae Yong just keep silent till he said, "I will regret all the time I run away from you..." They stare at each other for a few beats until Myung Joo asks if he’s just going to stand there. Dae Young pulls Myung Joo in for a tight hug and she tearfully embraces him back.

Mo Yeon stands in the middle of the power plant as rescuers rush around her. She flashes back to seeing the victims and survivors working in the power plant before the earthquake including Team Leader Go greeting her with a smile. Mo Yeon starts sobbing as her head falls forward and Shi Jin stoically takes this scene in.

A soldier notices that Shi Jin’s shoulder is injured and he is shocked that Shi Jin has been bearing this injury this whole time. Mo Yeon pulls Shi Jin over to a medical tent to sew up the wound. She tells him that she will be fine despite him not asking her anything, and he wonders if she heard his internal question to her? Mo Yeon says she heard it loud and clear.

Shi Jin is very comforted that Mo Yeon is here with him, to fight alongside him. He apologizes for the poor attitude earlier but Mo Yeon has faced death way more than he has realized but the death she sees comes not from soldiers but from doctors holding scalpels. Shi Jin wonders if he should takes back his words of comfort even though he really wishes that she is fine.

Mo Yeon asks Shi Jin to do what he does best, tell her a joke to lighten the mood. Shi Jin brings up how pretty she is right now but she doesn’t think he can say so since he can’t see her. He saw her earlier and she really was so pretty. Mo Yeon smiles and finishes stitching Shi Jin up. He quietly admits that he misses her a lot and thinks of her all the time no matter what he’s doing. He tried to keep busy, work himself to exhaustion, even drink, but he still thinks of her all the time. Shi Jin asks her to consider what he just said, even if this wasn’t what she expected to hear he wants to tell her because it’s this is all his sincere words.

Right after the confession, Shi Jin gets up and turns to Mo Yeon telling her to get some rest. He wanted to drive her back but he can’t now as he has to give a report to the main base. Mo Yeon asks if she can go with him to the main base as she has a call to make. Mo Yeon picks up a cell phone and stares at it. Shi Jin looks over as Mo Yeon places the call to Team Leader Go’s wife. She relays his dying words to her – Team Leader Go feels at peace that he’s provided for his family and sent his kids to college. With his wife they’ve spent the marriage staring at each other’s pictures more than spending time together and in a twist of fate now that will be her future. He assures his wife that he will leave her with the retirement fund and also a nephew will help her out, but most importantly he wants his wife to move on as soon as possible and not mourn. Shi Jin takes this conversation in. 

OMG, I dunno why but somehow it seems Kim Eun Sook is hinting about the possible ending of Shi Jin died in war area meanwhile Mo Yeon has to move on and not to mourn. Somehow, I guess Captain Yoo also thinks that one day he is gonna die and he should make sure people who he left behind can still move on with their life. OMG I don't like this seriously. 

Mo Yeon softy cries after making the call to Team Leader Go’s wife and Shi Jin follows her out of the tent as she looks for a quiet place to grieve. Shi Jin teases that it’s something a guy would be suggesting, going to a quiet place. He compliments Mo Yeon on doing well today and asks her to look at him before pointing skyward. Mo Yeon looks up to see a sky full of stars and is upset that the sky is this beautiful when the ground is devastated below. Mo Yeon thanks Shi Jin for coming back, if he wasn’t here today perhaps she would have run away. Shi Jin has a quip at the ready and suggests they run away together because a man and a woman have always run away together. 

The next day, Shi Jin comes again for duty with his team. They discover a guy in Basement Level 3 being trapped but still survived. At first, it is Dae Yong who goes down to Basement 3 and calls Shi Jin for help. Shi Jin heads out to help Dae Yong and told Mo Yeon to just stay still because he understands about medical a little bit and rather than having another patient, it is better for her to stay up there and communicate with him via walkie talkie.

Shi Jin head outs to Basement Level 3 to help Dae Yong. The worker is in relatively good health, grumbling that Dae Young only gave him water and won’t let him eat and asking Shi Jin for something to eat. Dae Young and Shi Jin need some time to lift the slab off his leg so he can move. Shi Jin radios to Mo Yeon and reports on the patient’s vitals and she radios back for him to provide some painkillers and IV fluid. Shi Jin takes out a needle and tells the patient that he has experience from military academy and wonders why people are questioning him so much today.

Dae Young needs another piece of equipment so Shi Jin tells him to go get it as he stays behind with the worker. Then suddenly there is another shaking due to the Manager operates the excavator to save his 'paper', which makes Shi Jin and the workers being disconnected with people above there and the entry is blocked by a large piece of wall stone. Myeong Ju is panicked because there is no answer from Shi Jin and the workers also shouts there is a person died there. Fortunately, our main lead is not that easy to die! Yeay he is back!!

Shi Jin tells the workers they are going to be save because he believed his comrades and he said, "You should have a girlfriend u want to see, right?" The worker doesn’t have a girlfriend and asks if Shi Jin does. Shi Jin mentions the female doctor on the other end of the walkie talkie earlier, she’s already rejected Shi Jin three times. The worker says he would be so embarrassed he would kill himself if he were Shi Jin. Outside Mo Yeon gets a grip on herself and remembers that she has a job to do and says for Shi Jin to stay safe.

Shi Jin laughs that Mo Yeon must be worried sick outside right now and probably wishes she accepted him already. Shi Jin asks for the worker’s name and learns that it’s Kang Min Jae. He writes on Min Jae’s arm just in case only Min Jae makes it out. Min Jae is having a hard time talking as his throat his swelling. Shi Jin wants him to stop saying that he will die and believe Shi Jin when he says they will be saved.

Finally they both are saved. Mo Yeon saw the writting on Min Jae's hand and it reminds her about Shi Jin's doing last time on Ki Bum. Min Jae is carried off as Shi Jin walks out grumbling to Min Jae that he’s not an ahjusshi. Shi Jin walks up to Mo Yeon and calls for a stretcher. Myung Joo asks if there is another survivor but Shi Jin lays down on the stretcher and says that he is the survivor. Mo Yeon is about to head off to treat Min Jae when Shi Jin grabs her arm and turns to look at Myung Joo to bring up how he sent Dae Young out first. Myung Joo thanks him for looking out for Dae Young and offers to treat Min Jae and tells Mo Yeon to stay with this pretending to be injured patient. Shi Jin tells Mo Yeon that he’s not pretending, he really is hurt. She believes him and that is why she will treat him but need him to let go of her arm first. After that, Dae Yong also come and he sees the Manager who cause the shaking. Dae Yong then punch him in the face and Shi Jin smiles saying he is so cool! YEP me too also think he is so coool!!!!

Mo Yeon patches Shi Jin up and he wonders why she’s so cold to him after he escaped a life and death situation. Mo Yeon doesn’t like that he’s joking about it since he really almost died. She really was so scared for him but Shi Jin says he trusts that Mo Yeon will take care of him should anything happen which is why he went in. Mo Yeon wonders why he always takes such risks and Shi Jin explains that he’s a very capable man and doesn’t intend to ever have anything happen to him.

The situation has come back and there rest of the power plant workers are saved. They did a memorial ceremony to remember the death and pay their respect. 

Daniel then fixs everything he could with his amazing looks. Mo Yeon offers to give a song from her phone and it will be heard by everyone there. Suddenly after the first music, Mo Yeon’s recordings play, including her cliff side confession to Shi Jin. She wonders why he hasn’t come rescue her yet, and how her heart pounded for so long to be kissed by a guy as amazing as him. Shi Jin smiles as Mo Yeon frantically races through the base to get to her phone and turn the most embarrassing public announcement in her life off.

Ohmy!! I dunno why but Jin Goo is so cool and manly here!!! Go go Dae Yong!!

He attracts me when he said he is going to regret all the time he runs away from Myeong Ju. He did love her deeply but many times he could only say it by his deep gaze. OMG, I like this second lead and this is a drama whereby the second lead feels so special to me too!!

Captain Yoo and Dr. Kang are also very cute in their relationship, although I couldn't say they might have a bad ending since there are many hints already about it. But I hope deeply they are going to have a happy ending instead since, "In the midst of disaster, love will find its way.". I really really like how Shi Jin being serious about his feeling, how Kang Mo Yeon has become part of his world. No matter how hard he tries to forget about her, reject her existence but he still misses her a lot and thinks about her all the time. Have you seen a guy who ready to throw away his pride and say something like this? He is so sincere about it in this episode, much more than just falling for the pretty face lady. He is serious and really care about her. OMG I cried as soon as I read "I missed you a lot. No matter how I tried tiring out myself..." same like Mo Yeon's expression. The feeling is very deep and I think if I were Mo Yeon, I am touched by him saying things like that. 

Although with this confession, he still doesn't get her, but Shi Jin keeps insisting he likes her no matter what and will keep going to be like that. Remember what he said when he is trapped? I know, at that time Mo Yeon regrets many times for rejecting him. Even at the second time she rejected him, she regretted it so much saying he was the best choice after all the guy he met.

I was very tempted to tell Shi Jin how Mo Yeon actually feels about him, but I dunno why and I said I respected her choice and her calm decision to just stay calm, even though she likes him so much, she still choose not to be with him again and again. But then, Kim Eun Seok made a spectacular cute confession from the recording instead for Mo Yeon rather than having her saying how much she likes Shi Jin. It's the best part so far since it connects more with Mo Yeon's character for rejecting Shi Jin so many times yet she likes him the best but choose to move with her logic rather than feeling. 

OMG, I hope the possible ending that has been spread all over the media won't end up like that. I mean, well that's true if the ending is Shi Jin died, everything will make sense, but it will be very sad and I am not hoping it to happen.
