Upcoming Drama: My Sassy Girl - Joo Won & Oh Yeon Seo

Joo Won and Oh Yeon Seo are a lovely Joseon dynasty couple for the historical drama remake of 'My Sassy Girl'!

The drama will tell the story of Joseon's finest young man Kyeon Woo (Joo Won), who is also a teacher to the crown prince. Opposite him is the bright and lively princess Hye Myung (Oh Yeon Seo), a love interest who is comical and lovable because of it. 

CNBLUE's Jungshin will also star in the drama as Kang Joon Young, an official in the ministry of supervision, while opposite him will be actress Kim Yoon Hye as Jung Da Yeon, a woman in love with Joon Young. 

Filmed 100% prior to its broadcast, 'My Sassy Girl' will premiere after currently airing Mon-Tues drama 'Whisper' in May. However, as you might know, Joo Won would enlist on May 2017. Thus, this might be his last drama before entering the military and see you again after two years ~

Joo Won Talks About My Sassy Girl Historical Drama

Actor Joo Won chatted with fans through a surprise appearance on the 'V' app on December 22!

He revealed what he's been up to lately with, "These days, I've continuously engaged in filming for SBS's 'My Sassy Girl (working title).'  I think it'll remain that way for the end of the year and beginning of the new year.  In order to finish it to an extent, we are spurring on."

When asked to introduce the drama, the actor said, "It's a romance between a sassy princess and a man.  The content is entirely different from the original.  You'll see when you watch." 

During the broadcast, he said, "Right now, we filmed in Ilsan.  We shot for the posters here and tomorrow, early in the morning, I have to go to the country to film.

"Today, reports came out.  That the drama is confirmed to air on Mondays and Tuesdays through SBS in May.  The broadcast will go well as long as there are no huge changes. Honestly, I'm worried because I hear it's going to get cold.  I really do not like the cold. Also, my mouth freezes up, so it's very hard [when acting].  That's why I'm worried.

"I expect the filming today to go for eleven hours.  I hope it doesn't take longer than that. I need to go somewhere far tomorrow morning again," and laughed.  Fighting! Stay warm!

The drama's side claimed that the drama will be airing after SBS's 'Whisper' after 'Defendant' after 'Romantic Doctor' on Mondays and Tuesdays. Yup, it's still quite a long ways away.  Ultimately, it will be airing next year in May.  

Upcoming Drama: Joseon's Sassy Love Story

Here’s our first peek at SBS’s remake of My Sassy Girl, the youth fusion sageuk twist on the 2001 romantic-comedy classic. The drama remake stars Joo Won (Yong Pal) and Oh Yeon Seo (Jang Bo Ri is here!) as a cold city scholar and a sassy princess in a Joseon-era version of the love story, and as expected, they look beautiful together in the stills.

The fully pre-produced drama comes from PD Oh Jin Seok (Yong Pal) and newbie writer Yoon Hyo Je, and is described as a light, cheerful fusion sageuk about youths and their love and ambition. Unlike the original My Sassy Girl where Cha Tae Hyun played a beta male who did anything he could to win over sassy girl Jun Ji Hyun, Joo Won’s character is more of a classic dramaland hero, described as a prickly city scholar who holds himself in high regard. He’s so brilliant that people call him “Joseon’s national treasure”.

Oh Yeon Seo plays a beautiful princess known for causing all manner of trouble in and out of the palace. She’s a quirky character, described as fearless and strange and cheerful all at once. She’s a troublemaker who jumps the palace wall and does as she pleases, but she’s also a very proactive young woman who puts up a fight against anything she deems unreasonable. Second leads will be played by Lee Jung Shin (Cinderella and the Four Knights) and Kim Yoon Hye (Vampire Detective).

Given how much they’ve changed the main characters in this remake, I’m curious to find out what elements of the original My Sassy Girl will actually be salvaged, because my hunch is that it will only share a name with the movie and pay homage to a few marquee scenes at most. I might prefer that, because I want this drama to stand on its own. The production has had its share of woes before filming even began, and still carries some negative associations from holding a highly publicized open audition for its leading lady, only to then drop the actress who earned the role and replace with her with a big-name star. It was not the best foot to start out on, but I hope that they can turn out a drama that’s good enough to make us forget the backstage drama and just fall in love with the story.

My Sassy Girl plans to air sometime in 2017 on SBS.
