It's such a sad news in my opinion that Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo will go against Legend of The Blue Sea on Wednesday-Thrusday drama slot this upcoming week.
Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo is an upcoming South Korean television series starring Lee Sung Kyung and Nam Joo Hyuk. It is a coming-of-age sports drama, inspired by the life of Olympic gold-medalist Jang Mi Ran. Lee Sung Kyung will play as Kim Bok Joo, a naturally gifted weightlifter with an ambitious personality. She stands up for injustice, but is shy and awkward around boys. She hides her insecurities and fragile heart under her strong exterior. Meanwhile, Nam Joo Hyuk will play as Jang Joon Hyung, who is Bok Joo's best friend, a talented swimmer with a playful personality. He suffers a trauma that began when he made a false start at his first big international competition and got disqualified.
Legend of The Blue Sea tells the story of a mermaid and her devoted love that’s told in multiple timelines, both in the past and present. It starred such an A list actor and actress, which is Jun Ji Hyun and Lee Min Ho. Little Mermaid story is a classic storyline which was told to everyone, but this time, the story would tell in a more fantasy-comedy drama in modern times.
On November 15, Lee Sung Kyung and Nam Joo Hyuk held a press conference for Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo at MBC's headquarters. At the press conference, Lee Sung Kyung talked about the competition, saying, "All the sunbaenims- Oh Ji Ho, Jun Ji Hyun, Lee Min Ho and everyone are very amazing, and I, too, am looking forward to it. Each drama is going in a different direction. [Our] drama is a lovely, youthful drama, and the competing drama has charms of its own."
Lee Sung Kyung continued, "Rather than worrying about the viewer ratings, I want to be able to introduce our drama without feeling any embarrassment, and that's what I'm going to be thinking about when acting. Not only with my good job in acting, but I want to make it beautiful together with the staff. I want to give it all with no regrets. I hope it does well, but it also has to fit in with the situations and I think it's just up to destiny. I will leave the viewer ratings up to destiny."
Regarding the romance and chemistry between them, Lee Sung Kyung said, "Seeing as how I've always been close to Nam Joo Hyuk, there were no need to adjust to each other, need to get to know each other, discomfort, or areas of concern. Because Kim Bok Joo and Jung Joon Hyung start off as friends in the drama, we will be able to slowly open our hearts to each other."
Nam Joo Hyuk said, "I'm so comfortable with Lee Sung Kyung that we are filming comfortably and enjoyably. I think we'll be able to show a romance that is as natural as that."
To be honest, it's gonna be a hard competition between them and I wonder why they have to be aired on the same time slot. As Lee Min Ho & Jun Ji Hyun are well known in the industry, specially with their hit dramas, 'You Who Came From The Star', 'Boys Over Flowers' and 'The Heirs', the rating certainty is very high.
However, I am glad that both Lee Sung Kyung and Nam Joo Hyuk are well reserved with the competition. Instead of hoping for high ratings, they said, they would just do their best and let the ratings goes with luck and destiny. My guess is that, the rating will slowly going up but won't reach more than 10% I guess...
So let's just hope for the best :D
