The K2 - Ji Chang Wook & Im YoonA Drama Review

Finished watching The K2, starring Ji Chang Wook, Im YoonA, Song Yun Ah and Jo Sung Ha. The K2 is derived from the intial name of Kim Je Ha (played by Ji Chang Wook). This is a political drama with a little bit of romance and action.

Kim Je Ha is a former mercenary soldier for the PMC Blackstone. While in Iraq, he gets framed for the murder of his lover. As a result, he runs away and becomes a fugitive. He returns to South Korea and by chance, gets offered to work as a bodyguard by Choi Yoo Jin (played by Song Yun Ah), the owner of JSS Security Company, the daughter from a chaebol family and wife of the presidential candidate, Jang Se Joon (played by Jo Sung Ha).

He accepts the job in exchange of the resources that he needs in order to get his revenge on another presidential candidate, Park Kwan Soo, who previously ordered the killing of his lover. In the meantime, Je Ha gets assigned to guard Go Anna (played by Im YoonA), the hidden daughter of Jang Se Joon, whose life is always threatened because of Yoo Jin, her stepmother. Anna, who has been reclused and lonely all her life, starts relying on Je Ha, who shows concern for her and protects her at all costs. They slowly fall in love with each other, which makes Je Ha torn between having to work with his ally, Yoo Jin in order to get his revenge and protecting his new-found love, Anna, against his own ally.

While the synopsis look so much interesting, I found the story seems lacking a bit towards the end of the storyline. At first, I was drawn to this drama because Ji Chang Wook is well known for his good acting and well he's kinda handsome, despite I am not a fan of him, ever since his drama with Ha Ji Won. The production team also put much budget to shoot some scenes in Barcelona, Spain and I think YoonA plays her part really well to be the lonely Go Anna. Everything seems to be perfectly planned in the first two episodes.

Yet, when they set the drama in South Korea, this is where everything starts to go off. There is nothing wrong of course for Kim Je Ha to accept Choi Yoo Jin's offer to become her bodyguard a.k.a slaves. But with his skills and experience, I just don't understand as to why Kim Je Ha was assigned to be Go Anna's bodyguard. He's just perfect to go with Choi Yoo Jin and get his revenge on Park Kwan Soo, without having to know who Go Anna really is.

Song Yun Ah is really perfect in portraying Choi Yoo Jin, an elegant lady with a powerful nd strong will behind. She's so beautiful till I have no words for her unchanging beauty even though she's getting older. I like it so much when the cold Choi Yoo Jin starts to open herself because of the existence of Kim Je Ha, taking him as her friend and giving him a chance to understand her better. It's a confusing part for me as well when Kim Je Ha helped and tried to protect her as well when nobody was on her side. But in the end, the feeling towards Choi Yoo Jin is not love, but a pity? Then why do you have to do that much if you are going to let her die, Kim Je Ha?

I know it's happening since Im YoonA was the female lead, but I just find it strange on the feeling development between Go Anna and Kim Je Ha. What makes them fall so deeply towards each other? If Kim Je Ha starts to care for her because she's so pitiful, then why it is not the same to Choi Yoo Jin? I think Kim Je Ha's attitude toward both female lead is really confusing and I just don't get the chemistry between Ji Chang Wook and Im YoonA.

On the part of the storyline, I don't like the idea of that all of the presidential candidate died in the end. Then what's the point for us to watch all the 15 episodes, the political struggles, the revenge and the tense when the production team was just going to kill them off?

I was expecting one party to win, but with a huge price they have to pay. Yet Choi Yoo Jin, Jang Se Joon and Park Kwan Soo died in the end. It's such a pity actually that the powerful Choi Yoo Jin ended up dying because of the bullet. She's actually like any other human, can easily die. But why is it so easy for her to kill someone? It's a contradiction with her character.

I wanted to stop watching this drama once Kim Je Ha and Go Anna get together. As if I know what's going to happen with them. The only reason I continue watching it is because I wanna see who's going to win the presidential and what's go good about that position till each of them have to sacrifice that much. But well I am not satisfied with the ending... I know this drama is very successful, considering it's on cable tv. It's just that I am not into it that much ^^, maybe because I am not a fan of YoonA also? So, what do you think about the K2?
